As we long ago suspected, the intervention of a mechanical gadget between the auditor and the preclear had a tencency to de-personalize the session and also gave the auditor a dependence upon the physical universe and its meters which did not have to be there." (Dianetics 55!, p.101) Well, uh, let's see... I heard Hubbard wrote this at the time he was having problems with Volney Mathisson and his patent on the e-meter. Later this patent argument was straightened out in Hubbard's favor and thus the return of the e-meter. BTW, I have a copy of a Home Workshop catalog from 1942 that shows a crude e-meter and calls it a fun-provoking party toy. It was to be used as a lie detector. -- ////// Jeff Jacobsen SP4, Scientology critic PO Box 3541 ftp.primenet.com /users/c/cultxpt Scottsdale AZ 85271 http://www.xnet.com/~can/can.html USA Scientology has raided 4 critics' homes!!!
