Lines: 73 [M685 - 2 Million SA Children Helped?] I thought I'd bring this up again in the light of an article in New Scientist that details a group working the SA townships for quite a few years. Unlike Scientology, however, they are quite modest with their figures and have names and places to refer to. Scientology is grandstanding with it's claim that it (Scientology) deployed a program of education of black children which has so far resulted in 2 million being taught to read and write using Hubbard's 'Study Technology' Two Million is a figure that would attract much attention by the sheer volume alone, and the recognition value would be huge. However, independent requests for information from the SA government and educational authorities (By Tony McClelland) gave no result. Investigations carried out by Kim Baker in SA *did* result in some data regarding voluntary SCN workers, and Andy Milne after a *lot* of pushing claimed that a program had been set up to educate TEACHERS in the arts of Study Tech. Milne is pushing a supposition that GIVEN there was an educational program put forward by a few tens of volunteers, GIVEN that a few hundred teachers were so educated and accepted the method, there is an IMPLICATION that 2 million black children were so processed. Since there is no official documentation to be had, it appears that what few efforts were applied to 'get the tech in' is an exaggeration of at least a thousandfold. No monitoring, no referees, no documentation. It was never written up in any newspapers or journals. Scientology cannot even come up with a single official name who could substantiate that permission was given to run such a program in SA schools. Lies and Statistics. The glossy WHAT IS SCIENTOLOGY book is quick to state how EDUCATION ALIVE: "...was established in 1975 and since then trained more than 2 million students." "...has also trained literally tens of thousands of teachers since its inception." and "...Encouraged by Education Alive's results, major corporations have provided financial support for its vital work." TWO MILLION CHILDREN? Gives us the names of several schools that can provide independent testimony. Tell us how much was provided OR who made this support. Teachers names, anything. I made quite a few postings in the past on this matter and calculated that to achieve such a program SUPERVISED over 4 or 5 years would cost around $30 million dollars. The Cof$ isn't *THAT* much of a community oriented mob.
