Skeptic Tank!

Since some of the materials which describe the $cientology cult could be considered to be copywritten materials, I have censored myself and The Skeptic Tank by deleting any and all possible text files which describes the cult's hidden mythologies. I have elected to quote just a bit of the questionable text according to the "Fair Use" legal findings afforded to those who report. - Fredric L. Hodkin & Company Solicitors Goldhanger 6 Portland Road East Grinstead West Sussex RH19 4DZ 5 July 1995 Dear Sir, Re "The Big Story Campaign" We act for Church of Scientology Religious Education College Inc. and understand that you intend to participate in actions against our client as part of something called "The Big Story Campaign". From the information we have been supplied, it is apparent that this "campaign" amounts to a conspiracy to injure our client, and that other unlawful and tortious acts are planned. We note for example that one of the goals of the campaign is to prevent people from entering Scientology churches and missions. In addition to conspiracy to injure, these activities may give rise to action in nuisance and trespass, as well as defamation. They may also of course amount to public order offences. We put you on notice that if you participate in any unlawful activities against our client, or continue to participate in the same, legal action will be commenced against you without further warning. We accordingly require your written agreement that you will not engage in any unlawful activities against our clients, including, but not limited to, conspiring to injure, nuisance, trespass, interference and defamation. We await to hear from you not later than noon on 7 July 1995. Your faithfully, Hodkin & Co. [<-that's the signature, honest!] HODKIN & COMPANY [P D Hodkin's Telephone and Fax numbers omitted] [end of letter] As you can see, it's vacuous bilge. I am told that the collective response was a metaphorical two fingers. The recipients of these letters are just ordinary people who don't want their loved ones to be sucked into Scientology's collective mind. They're refusing to shut up and they deserve our respect for this. In a related development, one family received a visit last week from a private investigator working for Hodkin & Co. They sent him packing, but were naturally a bit scared by this intrusion into their private lives. I will keep posting information of Scientology's campaign against UK critics as I get it.
