From: James Randi --- Wizard To: broadcast-randi-hotline@ssr.com Subject: A puzzle.... Date: Tue, 9 Jan 1996 00:22:40 -0500 A PUZZLE Since there is a major celebration of the existence, work, and importance of Martin Gardner to be held in Atlanta 10 days from now, I thought I'd present my readers with a puzzle. What follows is a message encoded in a new ideal system, a second version, and any strange wording that has already been used here is also a clue to the solution.... 310, L 7 4 from 422, RB 2 from 453, L 275, L 8, 2 564, R 17 69, R 5 188, L 14 202, L 1 162, R 26 207, L 8 The successors of Daniel had something to do with this, too. (The secret message is a bulletin on an important event of which I was just informed this morning, an event that I may not reveal due to certain confidentiality provisions of which I've been advised. Should any of you out there manage to solve the puzzle, I'll ask that you not distribute the message, but you may ask me if the solution is correct -- which will be pretty obvious, anyway. The solution is not beyond many of my readers, I'm sure. It will be interesting to see how many, if any, of you will solve it!)
