By: Robin Murray-o'hair Re: Movie Release Date Moved FILM RELEASE DATE CHANGED On Friday, March 24, Miramax Films announced that it would change the release date in response to protests by Catholics. The film, titled simply Priest, deals with homosexuality and adultery by Roman Catholic priests. It was scheduled to be released nationally on Friday, April 14. What's the big deal? Well, it seems that April 14 is Good Friday, a Christian religious holiday, and the Catholic League, an organization of 200,000 members, doesn t like the coincidence one bit. In fact, the league promised a boycott of Walt Disney Co., which owns Miramax. The Catholic League still isn't satisfied, however, as it wants Disney to disown the film entirely. In the meantime, an outfit called Morality in Media has also stepped forward to attack the film, saying that it attacks the Catholic Church's teachings as the cause of the failings [of priests] and attempts to undermine the Church's moral authority. Priest will now be released on April 19. Sources: Reuters, 3/24/95; UPI, 3/24/95; Morality in Media Press Release, 3/24/95
