Freedom Writer - July 1994 [ref001] What to do when theReligious Right comes to town _ Form a group to study and research the groups and activists in your area. Find out where they stand on the issues, and be sure to look for their national connections. Build a coalition with other groups with whom you can work. Although you may disagree on some points, unite to fight the radical Religious Right. Share your findings with the media. Give them facts, not emotional opinions. Start a newsletter to keep members of the community informed. Call the Institute for First Amendment Studies for permission to reprint articles from _The_Freedom_Writer_ and _Challenging_the_Christian_ Right:_The_Activist's_Handbook_. Encourage voter registration and help get voters to the polls. Low voter turnout is the Religious Right's greatest strength. Run for an office for which you are qualified. Find and support other qualified candidates. Place advertising in local papers about candidates whom you know have extreme positions. Stick to facts. _ [ref002][ref003] Return to table of contents Copyright 1995 IFAS The Freedom Writer / ifas@crocker.com [ref001] ../banner.gif [ref002] index.html [ref003] ../../uparrow.gif This file is copywritten by the Institute for First Amendment Studies.
