Freedom Writer [ref001] Potential church-state casesfor the 1994-1995 term The Court may decide to accept two church state cases for review this term. The first is a challenge by a group of Christian students at the University of Virginia to their school's policy of refusing to provide monies from student activity fees to defray the costs of their exclusively Christian student-run magazine. The second is an appeal by a commercial landlord in Anchorage, Alaska who refuses, on religious grounds, to rent apartments to unmarried people who plan to live together. The Alaska Supreme Court refused to give the landlord a religious exemption from city and state laws that prohibit landlords from discriminating on the basis of marital status. _Back to [ref002]Moment of silence in public schools_ [ref003][ref004] Return to table of contents Copyright 1995 IFAS The Freedom Writer / ifas@crocker.com [ref001] ../banner.gif [ref002] silence.html [ref003] index.html [ref004] ../../uparrow.gif This file is copywritten by the Institute for First Amendment Studies.
