Like Mitchell and James Taylor (somewhat), Browne provided a weighty soundtrack for scores of apprehensive 60s kids who were trying to come to grips with growing up and finding their place in the world.,Without a doubt, his first four albums are loaded with gems, even if his melodies tend to have a sameness. Browne has always attracted stellar sidemen for his records, many of whom can also be found on records by Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor.,During his career, Browne has proven himself to be a very capable producer for Warren Zevon and Greg Copeland.,Hardcore Browne fanatics will claim their hero ceased to perform to their expectations after his million-selling 1977 opus THE PRETENDER; but, his greatest commercial success took place from that album on. Granted, his highest charting single, the lightweight #4 hit, "Somebody's Baby," was quite a departure from his previous work, but maybe Browne needed a breather.,In 1982 Browne's California rock/pop phase ended and he returned with the more topical LAWYERS IN LOVE, which produced a hit with the title track. Subsequent albums have increasingly addressed global issues over the self-absorbed ruminations of his earlier work. ~ Rick Clark ---------- Related Artists ----------- Davis, Jimmy Copeland, Greg Zevon, Warren ---------- Roots & Influences ---------- Dylan Beatles Birthdate & Place : Oct 9, 1948 Heidelberg, Germany AMG Artist ID # : P000003784 Chronological Album List |Date| Label | Number |R S T|Rating --------------------------------+----+----------+--------+-----+------ I'm Alive |1993|Elektra | | | World in Motion |1989|Elektra |60830 |R S | OK Lives in the Balance |1986|Asylum |60457 | S | Good Lawyers in Love |1983|Asylum |60268 |R S | Good Jackson Browne/Running on Empty|1983|Asylum |60277 | S | BestA Pretender / Late for the Sky, T|1982|Asylum |462041 | S | BestA Hold Out |1980|Asylum |511 | S | Good Running on Empty |1977|Asylum |113 |R S |+BestG Pretender, The |1976|Asylum |107 |R S | BestA Late for the Sky |1974|Asylum |1017 |R S T| BestG For Everyman |1973|Elektra |5067 |R S | Good Los Angeles, California |1972|Asylum |5051 | S | Jackson Browne |1972|Asylum |5051 |R S | BestA First Album (Unreleased) |1967|Elektra |? | S | All-Music Guide Album Details (Alphabetical Order) ----------------------- All-Music Guide Album ------------------------ Album : First Album (Unreleased) Artist : Jackson Browne Rating : not rated yet Genre : Rock Date : 1967 (release) AMG ID : R000031742 --------- Album Releases --------- 1967 LP Elektra ? ------- Album Personnel/Sidemen ------- Jackson Browne - g/v/k/prd ----------------------- All-Music Guide Album ------------------------ Album : For Everyman Artist : Jackson Browne Rating : Good Charts : Billboard #043, entered Nov 10, 1973, on charts 038 weeks Genre : Rock Date : 1973 (release) AMG ID : R000002796 (album inprint) --------- Album Releases --------- 1973 CD Elektra 5067 CS Asylum CS-5067 CD Elektra 5067 Asylum 5067 ------- AMG Album Reviews ------- This is a less consistent collection than the debut. Its songcraft is extremely well developed, and Browne comes off as the kind of wordsmith who never has to strain for a rhyme or limit his imagination to his verbal facility. "Doctor My Eyes," the album's hit, is full of wordplay from the title on, and it's typical. Browne sings in a warm, conversational voice, and his music suggests rock without really working up a sweat. ~ William Ruhlmann ------- Album Personnel/Sidemen ------- Jackson Browne - g/v/k/prd David Campbell - Viola David Crosby - Vocal Jesse "Indian Ed" Davis - Guitar Craig Doerge - Keyboards Jimmy Fadden - Harmonica Jim. People who think of him as a profound pessimist are too, what with another death song, "Fountain of Sorrow," and another apocalypse song, "Before the Deluge," to add to the Browne collection. But "The Late Show" is his best-realized love song yet, and even if he is a doom-monger, he's so good at it! ~ William Ruhlmann ------- Album Personnel/Sidemen ------- Jackson Browne - g/v/k/prd Joyce Everson - Vocal Beth Fichet - Vocal Dan Fogelberg - Vocal Jon Douglas Haywood - Bass, Vocal Don Henley - Vocal David Lindley - g/vln/gts Perry Lindley - Vocal Kent Nebergall - Engineer Tom Perry - Engineer Terry Reid - Vocal Fritz Richmond - Jug, Engineer Al Schmitt - Producer Clarence White - Keyboards Jai Winding - Keyboards Larry Zack - Drums -------- Album Tracks -------- Late For The Sky Fountain Farther On Late Show, The Road And The Sky, The For A Dancer Walking Slow Before The Deluge ----------------------- All-Music Guide Album ------------------------ Album : Lawyers in Love Artist : Jackson Browne Rating : Good Charts : Billboard #008, entered Aug 20, 1983, on charts 033 weeks Genre : Rock Date : 1983 (release) AMG ID : R000002801 (album inprint) --------- Album Releases --------- CD Asylum 60268-2 1983 CS Asylum 60268-4 1983 LP Asylum 9602681 CD Elektra 60268 Asylum 9 60268 ------- AMG Album Reviews ------- A droll, slick album where Browne's political bent began to show. ~ Dan Heilman After managing to sound romantically mawkish on 1980's HOLD OUT, Browne returned with this album.
