THEIST_WATCH Msg : 79 Written : 08/12/94 12:17pm From : ROBIN MURRAY-O'HAIR Status : To : ALL Subj : The Saving and the Unsave The Saved and the Unsaved Another religious nut is now predicting the end of the world - its "sign-off" for some time in September. This time it is a man relieved of his duties as an adult Bible class teacher, Harold Camping, in Alameda, California, when he began to prophecize the end. He has two books to his credit (_1994_ and _Are You Ready?_) and presides over a nightly national radio talk show, Family Radio, which owns forty stations. Since he began his prophecising the annual giving to the stations have increased 20% and is now up to $12 million. What a shame to give up $1 million smackers a month just for a trip to heaven. Do you want to hear the nonsense of how he arrived at the date? He reckoned that the period of "tribulation" forecast in apocalyptic texts of the Bible began in May 1988, 13,000 years after the world was created in 11,013 B.C. Working from that May date, he arrived at the September 1994 date of the end by taking literally a reference in the Book of Daniel. He sees key events as occurring every 1,000 years. J.C. was born 2,000 years ago; David ascended the throne of Israel 3,000 years ago. And September 1994 is the next up. Don't bother to pack your bags. Just wait for the ascension. *********************************************************************** * * * American Atheists website: * * PO Box 140195 FTP: * * Austin, TX 78714-0195 * * Voice: (512) 458-1244 Dial-THE-ATHEIST: * * FAX: (512) 467-9525 (512) 458-5731 * * * * Atheist Viewpoint TV: * * Info on American Atheists:, * * & American Atheist Press include your name and mailing address * * AANEWS -Free subscription: * * and put "info aanews" in message body * * * * This text may be freely downloaded, reprinted, and/other * * otherwise redistributed, provided appropriate point of * * origin credit is given to American Atheists. * * * ***********************************************************************
