[Begin by reading a poem, usually chosen by the couple..but some suggestions
would be Frost or Gibran]
A few years ago I saw a very strange and unique thing. It was a tree, or
rather two trees which had grown as one. At the base was an oak, and a
palm, but by some twist of nature they began to graft themselves together. As
they grew it became less distinct which was oak and which was palm. They had
formed a completely new and different, but single tree.
We have come to witness a simular union, the same as the total of the
hevenly host pause to witness this spiritual union. This union is forever,
throughout this life and all lives. It is a synthesis, and it is eternal.
[The bride and groom face each other and hold hands]
This ceremony is not as important as the decisions this couple have made
before this ceremony,or the decsions they will make after it.
This is like the rings of tree. When a tree is cut down we see many rings.
As we all know they tell the age of the tree. These rings tell more: by
their characteristics we know the quality and nature of each year of that
The decisions,no matter how small, made by this couple are like these rings
and are permanently impressed on their lives. By these decisions is the
quality and nature of each year of their life constructed. Let us pause and
we who are here to witness this union, silently pray or meditate on the
present and future happiness of this spiritual union. Let this couple meditate
on the decisions they have made and will make.
[Moment of silence]

can truly give. This, then, is the greatest gift.
Do you (Groom) give unto (Bride) thy life and the responsibility that goes
with it, realizing that there is no greater gift nor greater responsibility?
[The groom shall answer: I DO]

If there be anyone here who can show just cause why these two should not e

happiness of this union.
