WEDDING CEREMONY by Rev. Jeanne' Re [Begin by reading a poem, usually chosen by the couple..but some suggestions would be Frost or Gibran] A few years ago I saw a very strange and unique thing. It was a tree, or rather two trees which had grown as one. At the base was an oak, and a palm, but by some twist of nature they began to graft themselves together. As they grew it became less distinct which was oak and which was palm. They had formed a completely new and different, but single tree. We have come to witness a simular union, the same as the total of the hevenly host pause to witness this spiritual union. This union is forever, throughout this life and all lives. It is a synthesis, and it is eternal. [The bride and groom face each other and hold hands] This ceremony is not as important as the decisions this couple have made before this ceremony,or the decsions they will make after it. This is like the rings of tree. When a tree is cut down we see many rings. As we all know they tell the age of the tree. These rings tell more: by their characteristics we know the quality and nature of each year of that trees life. The decisions,no matter how small, made by this couple are like these rings and are permanently impressed on their lives. By these decisions is the quality and nature of each year of their life constructed. Let us pause and we who are here to witness this union, silently pray or meditate on the present and future happiness of this spiritual union. Let this couple meditate on the decisions they have made and will make. [Moment of silence] LET THERE BE PEACE No individual brings anything into this life. We come into life naked andwe can take nothing with us. All that we have is but borrowed. The only thing we truly own is our individual lives. This then is the only figt we can truly give. This, then, is the greatest gift. Do you (Groom) give unto (Bride) thy life and the responsibility that goes with it, realizing that there is no greater gift nor greater responsibility? [The groom shall answer: I DO] Do you (Bride) give unto (Groom) thy life and the responsibility that goes with it, realizing there is no greater gift nor greater responsibility? [The bride shall answer: I DO] [PAUSE] [RINGS AT THIS POINT] Do the two of you accept that which has been offered, and its responsibility? [In unison, the couple shall answer: WE DO] If there be anyone here who can show just cause why these two should not e eternally as one,let them speak now,or by their silence commit to the eternal happiness of this union. [PAUSE] I do by my calling and in the state of (STATE) prnounce you man and wife and place that seal on the union before these witness and all the hevenly host. [Make sign of the Cross or Pentagram in air] What God hath joined no person may break assunder" [Bride and Groom face the congregation] I present to you those who were alive and were dead and are now alive as one!! MR. and MRS. (Blank) Or, Mr. (BLANK) and Ms. (Blank)
